Critiques
When I listen to Mos Def's music, I get a multi-cultural vibe from different songs. I think you captured that in this piece by using different typefaces. There are a few typefaces in there that a traditional typography guru would gringe at (is that Mistral?).
I'd like to see it framed a little better, maybe some more black above his forehead and below his chin/neck.
Other than that, those few very minor things, I feel you did a spectacular job. If I were an instructor at a college of some sort, I'd totally give it an "A-".
The highlights in the eyes: are those words too? I'm assuming so. Brilliant.
This is a very original concept. I really don't see many flaws. I think that I'd have chosen different fonts, but that's not that big of a deal.
The first thing that I thought when I saw this as DD was, "Hey. That's Mos Def." So great job!
You should try this with other more prominent figures. I think you're on to something here.
